About the September 2025 Incubator:
UHAB’s National Incubator for Permanently Affordable Co-op Housing includes three phases:
(1) Foundational Elements
An introduction to the key concepts, terminology and practices needed to not only create or preserve permanently affordable housing co-ops, but, even more importantly, to understand and build the infrastructure needed to support the creation of co-ops and help them to thrive over the coming decades.
This phase will take place across seven Zoom sessions on Tuesdays at 3pm EST. Each week you can expect to spend a total of three hours in live zoom sessions and about two additional hours of independent work. In addition, Office Hours will be available weekly on Zoom.
The next incubator begins Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
(2) Local Practicum
A multi-week practicum where you will work independently or in small teams to explore the existing infrastructure in your local community and identify ways it could better support co-op development. You’ll prepare a report for the cohort outlining your findings and recommendations for strengthening support for affordable co-ops in your community. During this phase you will have opportunities to interact online with UHAB National staff and fellow participants on Zoom and within the class portal.
(3) In-Person Retreat
The incubator culminates in a three day in-person retreat at UHAB’s NYC offices from January 12-14, 2026. You will work with UHAB’s subject matter experts to learn more, based on your independent exploration and deepen your understanding of the steps you need to implement the development and support of permanently affordable co-op housing in your community. We will also tour several co-ops and learn from the experiences of their member leaders.
Groups may send one or more participants at a cost of $2,575 per person.
UHAB created the UHAB-National program in order to share our deep knowledge of the development and stewardship of permanently affordable co-op housing. UHAB-National offers, in addition to Incubators, Training for Trainers (T4T), Project Consulting/Coaching, Cooperative Development Consulting, Study Group Curriculum and/or Facilitation, and Co-op University. Learn more here.
Please note that spaces for the UHAB National Incubator Cohort are limited.
